NoteLens — banknote identifier
Last updated: August 2026
NoteLens keeps your collection on your device. There is no account, no cloud sync, and no advertising. The only thing that leaves your device is a banknote photo, sent for identification when you ask for one.
All of the following is written to a private database inside the app's own storage area, readable only by NoteLens:
When you run an identification, the banknote image is sent over an encrypted connection to an AI vision provider for analysis. Before it is sent, the app resizes it, re-compresses it, and strips the embedded metadata that cameras attach — including GPS coordinates, device model and capture timestamps.
The request passes through a server we operate, which holds the credential for the AI provider and forwards the image. That server does not store your image, does not log it, and retains nothing about the request beyond a counter used for rate limiting. The image is held only for the seconds the request takes.
The AI provider is currently Google, via the Gemini API, and processes the image under Google's privacy policy and the terms of that service. If the provider changes, this policy will be updated.
Nothing else is transmitted with the image. Your personal notes, your purchase prices, your location entries and the rest of your collection are never sent anywhere. No identifier for you or your device accompanies the image.
If a reference catalog is configured, the app also requests catalog records. Those requests contain search terms and note characteristics, not your photos or your personal entries.
You may choose to share anonymous usage and crash reports. This is off unless you turn it on. You are asked once, when you first open the app, and you can change your answer at any time in Settings → Privacy. Every feature works identically either way.
If you turn it on, the app reports: which screens you open, whether an identification succeeded or failed and why, how long it took, whether a photo was rejected by the quality check, and technical diagnostics when the app crashes.
If you turn it off — or never turn it on — none of that is sent, and the reporting components are switched off rather than left running silently. Turning it off also clears the anonymous identifier used to group reports, so a later change of mind starts fresh rather than resuming.
This reporting is provided by Google Firebase (Analytics, Crashlytics and Performance Monitoring), which processes it on our behalf under Google's terms. It is dormant until you opt in.
The following are never sent, whether or not you enable usage reporting:
NoteLens requests exactly one runtime permission:
Everything is under your control, because everything is local:
There is no account to delete, because there is no account.
There are no advertising networks and no social media SDKs in this app, and nothing here is used to build a profile of you or to track you across other apps or websites.
NoteLens is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from them. It collects no personal information from anyone, so there is nothing held about a child user either. The optional usage reporting described above is anonymous and is off by default.
This policy may be updated to reflect changes in how the app works. The "last updated" date above changes when it does. If what leaves your device ever changes, that section is what to re-read.
